Obsessive Chronicles Book Review

I read Obsessive Chronicles, in exchange for honest view via Sage Blog Tours. The book was written by Josh Greenfield. I also had responded to review the book via Book Blogs. I saw the author post on book blogs and wanted to review the book. Sage also contacted me to do the book as well. I chose the book because it dealt with mental health. I deal with mental health daily. mine and my kids. Brad is autistic and ADHD. Kalen is delayed (language, walking, and fine motor). Kalen also has petit mal seizures. Brad used to have seizures and so did I (epilepsy). I believe at times, I have ADHD because my mind wanders a little too much and sometimes I can take on more than I can bear. For example, book reviews. At first, I was taking on more books than I could read because I thought I could handle it. Then, I kept forgetting which books I was supposed to read and when. I had to create spreadsheets to remember book reviews and tours, giveaways, and blogger promotions.

My review:

The book was very descriptive. I got lost into the book quick. The book starts off with Jordan contemplating on making changes in his life. He can not get angry because he can lose control. He talks about making mistakes and learning from them. One thing I from that line-was you can't make mistakes if you are lazy and don't do anything. You have to get up and live life to make mistakes. He also discussed how he had severe obsessive compulsive disorder, which required psychiatric assistance to cope. Getting to the point where he needed help was a hard road.

At the start of the book, Jordan was in college. He was a studious individual. He stayed in the library all day to study, then found somewhere else to study once the library was closed. Jordan went to class on time and did the homework. Jordan strived on routine. When he got stressed, he would take a leave of absence. Jordan also wanted to escape and go somewhere, far, far, far away. I feel like that a lot of times. Go somewhere. Escape and come back with a fresh new attitude. He finally did escape to New York with very little of his stuff.

About the Book: (paraphrased from the email).

The book discusses how Jordan Fineman dealt with mental illness. Jordan had obsessive compulsive disorder and bi-polar disorder. He also worked at an Alaska salmon cannery, later working in New York, as a paralegal in the 1980s.

2013 Father's Day

In Life's Balancing Act, Tip the Scales in Dad's Favor on Father's Day

A Massage Envy Spa gift card is a gift he won't forget

Houston, TX -- Jun 04, 2013

Father's Day is June 16. Instead of the usual go-to gift -- a new wallet, the latest electronic gadget or gift card to a favorite restaurant -- why not surprise the fathers in your life with a gift card from Massage Envy Spa?

Father's Day is the one day a year we set aside specifically to honor our fathers. Let him know how much he means to you, that you recognize the stress in his life from a job, yard work and projects around the house, the kid's activities, and if he's lucky, a run or workout at the gym. A relaxing massage at Massage Envy Spa in a quiet, calm environment is the answer to a hectic routine.

Dads are always there for us, so shouldn't we be there for them? Massage therapy allows dad to relax, de-stress and rejuvenate, while promoting a healthy balance in his busy schedule. Besides relaxing muscles and relieving stress, massage therapy offers other health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, improving flexibility and range of motion, alleviating headaches and managing pain.

The licensed massage therapists at Massage Envy Spa can customize a session to fit a client's needs. Clinics offer several types of massage -- trigger point, deep tissue, cranial sacral, Swedish, sports, reflexology and geriatric. Add one or more enhanced treatments -- deep muscle, aromatherapy or the newest Sugar Foot Scrub -- or treat dad to Massage Envy's new signature Hot Stone Envy(R).

Helping dad help himself may be the best gift of all. Life is a balancing act, and massage can tip the scales in his favor. A Massage Envy Spa gift card for one or two massage therapy sessions -- even a one-year membership -- is the first step. Make it an annual tradition he'll look forward to every year. Gift cards can be used at any Massage Envy clinic or spa in the country.

"A gift card from Massage Envy Spa for Father's Day is a perfect gift and probably not one he will expect," says Lance O'Pry, regional developer for Massage Envy clinics. "People are discovering that massage therapy is an important part of taking care of ourselves and improving our overall well-being. Isn't that something we all want for our loved ones?"

At Massage Envy Spa, an introductory one-hour massage session (a 50-minute massage and time for consultation and dressing) is just $49. Memberships are available for $59 per month and include a one-hour massage session. Members can enjoy unlimited additional one-hour massage sessions at the $39 member rate. The introductory price for any of the four Massage Envy Spa signature facials is just $59. Clients can have a facial for only $10 more than the regular Massage Envy massage therapy price.

Bare Naked Truth Book Review, Facebook Party, and Giveaway

I read the Bare Naked Truth, in exchange for review from Litfuse. The book is written by Bekah Hamrick Martin and published by Zondervan.

My review:
I chose this book because it focuses on purity, waiting, and abiding by God's plan for sex. It is also National Celibacy Month. Yay.  I downloaded this book to the kindle as soon as I got it. I also downloaded a copy for Adobe Digital Editions. I did not expect my laptop to not charge anymore (need a repair person). When I went to get another copy a week or two ago, it was already archived on Netgalley. So, I had to hunt down the book on the Kindle. Could not find the book. Went to Amazon. The book was in my Kindle files, but Mrs. Kindle kept freezing up when I tried to search for it. Went to kindle for pc. kept freezing as well.  Either way, the book was in one of two folders, I hoped. Netgalley or Litfuse. It was not in Litfuse, which meant it was in Netgalley. Over 200 books in Netgalley. I found the book. Yay. I definitely want a paperback now.

I been reading and reviewing more books on purity lately. Currently reading another one for review from another company.

Tempted, Tested, True by Arnie Cole and Michael Ross
  1. What are you waiting for by Dannah Gresh
  2. Dating and the single parent
  3. When the roof caves in

I have not had sex since 2010, so this book was perfect for me. I started having sex at 18. My family did not talk to me about sex. Sex was taboo. Everything I learned at first was through experience. Later on through erotica, porn, and other people.  I did not truly know the effects of sex until later on in life. Sex is more than a physical connection, it is also emotional. Sex can cause problems. Had sex with two people before meeting the soon-to-be-ex husband (#3). Very limited sexual experience.  Had sex with him only from 1999 to 2005. In 2005, I cheated on him. Felt bad at first (more bad) because I never thought I would cheat. But He was also cheating as well. In 2004, I was diagnosed with Genital Herpes. Yay me. He was the only one I been sleeping with. Anyway, Fast forward, sex with him was routine and monotonous, but I didn't know how to communicate what I needed and wanted. When I cheated, it started a sexual revolution for me. It also started an addiction. I wanted sex and more of it.

The book provides an open and honest approach to purity, according to God.  The book focuses on the benefits of waiting, masturbation, disadvantages to waiting , and my favorite: getting all the information before making a decision. The author talked about how after 9/11, she was flying on a plane. Someone dropped a phone, a commotion ensued. The author didn't have all the information and ducked under her seat.

Another thing, which stood out, was the disadvantages of having multiple partners:

  1. Losing your ability to bond with your future spouse
  2. Sexual baggage can cause fear and distrust
  3. Increases risk of divorce
  4. Increase Emotional problems

Information about the book: (copied from litfuse)
The Truth About Sex and Waiting . . . Uncovered Purity.

Sex. Boys. Waiting. There's something about those words that makes everything complex in a heartbeat, and raises more questions than answers. Is there something wrong with me if I don't kiss a boy after a date? Or am I doomed if I DID? What if waiting is just a one-way trip to life as a crazy cat woman? And what if I tend to, um, think about a certain boy in a certain way? It seems that the lady at church and your friends have two very different opinions on the subject. And 'Your Budding Womanhood: Staying a Beautiful Flower for Jesus' just isn't cutting it. Bekah Hamrick Martin knows the waiting game isn't easy or straight-forward. In The Bare NakedTruth, she lays everything on the table---including some embarrassing moments---as she explores the honest, naked truth behind what God means by purity. With additional entries from popular authors, you'll see thebare naked approach to waiting isn't always easy, but it's worth the risk.

Information about the author: (Copied from litfuse)
Bekah Hamrick Martin was born in Savannah, Georgia, in an event which her brother keeps reminding her was completely unnecessary. She spent the better part of her high school years vacationing on the north end of her mattress due to an illness, where she developed a deep taste for chocolate and sarcasm. Today Bekah shares with teens about tough times, healing, and surviving their high school years---no matter where they spend them. Learn more about Bekah on her website:http://misswritebrained.wordpress.com/

There were Dinosaurs everywhere

I read There were Dinosaurs Everywhere, In exchange for review from Netgalley. The book was written by Howard Temperley and illustrated by Michael Kline. The book was published by KWS Publishers.

The book discusses the history of dinosaurs. The book also rhymes, which makes for easy learning. The illustrations are amazing. Each rhyme is filled with educational facts and a little bit of humor. Each illustration also is colorful and shows a little humor. Each illustration also gives the dinosaurs character.

The book was a quick read, interesting, and taught me more about dinosaurs--from naming them to evolving from amphibians--to eating habits.

Netgalley Wellness Challenge Week 4

So, I am part of the NetGalley Wellness Challenge. I been using Netgalley for over a year now. Love their selection of books. One thing I learned early was to read the publisher requirements. Nothing like wanting a book, but being denied because you don't meet the requirements.  Netgalley sent some helpful information in the mail box today. I got the badge on my blog yay. But Do I need to improve my Netgalley Profile?

So, First, I logged in Netgalley and went to my profile. Then, logged into Google Analytics so I can update my ranking information.

Ok, after that, I pulled up this checklist from the NG Blog. The first section includes:

  1. Do your account include your full name? Yes
  2. Is your country listed? Yes
  3. Email address (and visible to publishers)? Yes
  4. Profile Picture? Yes
  5. Company name? Perfect Chaos. Yes
  6. Blog site and URL? Yes
  7. Twitter and Linkedin user names? yes
  8. professional associations and favorite categories? Yes
  9. ALA number for librarians? Does not apply.
Next section: The Bio

  1. My role at the company. Yes. I am an author, poet, and blogger. I do book and product reviews :-)
  2. How I influence book purchases? This is a good question. I post reviews to my blog.
  3. Blog stats. Yes, but need to update them.
  4. Links to where you post reviews. Yes
Finally, the checklist asks about NG activity

  1. Downloading all my approved titles? Yes. even though the first few months of signing up, I missed a few.
  2. Sharing feedback with publishers. Yes. I am behind on a few though
  3. Including links in the feedback I submit. Yes.
  4. Receiving NG newsletters. Yes
  5. Receiving a widget or being auto-approved. Yes
  6. Having a netgalley Goal: have no idea what this is. My goal is to read and review books. I wish NG was a little bit like Edelweiss. In the past, When NG archives a book, you can not leave feedback on the book. I can still leave reviews on Amazon, my blog, Goodreads, Shelfari, and Librarything, but not on the website. With Edelweiss, you can still leave reviews even after the books are archived. So, I went to the NG FAQ's. It said you can still leave feedback, if you go to your activity, click on older, archived items, and then add the book to your shelf. then start feedback. YAY. I have a lot of reviews for NG items on Amazon that have no feedback on NG

Painting with the Chipmunks

When I go Wal-Marting, I stop in the clearance section. The last visit--Wal-Mart had a sideway sale and I picked up a lot of arts and crafts. Here are some of the pics with the chipmunks (sons, great niece, and nephew). They painted the wooden dog and cat, along with their selves.

This is Brad. My oldest son. He decided to paint his belly.

Fortress of Mist book review

120 x 600I read Fortress of Mist, in exchange for review from Blogging for Books. The book was written by Sigmund Brouwer and published by WaterBrook Press. The book is part two to the Orphan King (which I need to read). I chose the book because I loved the description. The book is about Thomas, the new king of Magnus. He is orphaned. Thomas's parents died during The Orphan King. Thomas is being haunted by Isabella, who wants access to the castle's library. She also wants Thomas to show allegiance to the symbol and join the symbol's alliance. Thomas wanted no part of the alliance. (For some reason, this sounds similar to the mark of the best. Either you pledge allegiance to Christ and face death or the Anti-Christ and live).

I liked reading the book. I had to stop and start over a few times, but it is a good book. I definitely have to buy the Orphan King to fill in the missing blanks and questions I have. The book is descriptive. It is fantasy, medieval, adventure, and exciting.
