Tori Kelly Hiding Place Review (Fly By Blog Promotions)

Disclaimer: This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links.

I received Tori Kelly's Hiding Place CD, in exchange for honest review from Fly By Blog Promotions. Tori Kelly is a Christian artist. I never heard of her before, but I had seen her on Google Play in the playlists.

The album, started out with Masterpiece, featuring Lecrae (big fan of his music). The song started out slow at first, but picked up the pace during the first verse. Lecrae showed out in his verse.

The cd is a mix of different musical styles. I heard pop in Masterpiece and a jazz beat in Sunday.

You can purchase her CD on Amazon, using the link above. The album is also available on Music Unlimited. It is also on Google Play (not sure, if it is free or with just all-access. I have all-access).

Laura Story Open Hands CD Review (Flyby Blog Promotions)

Disclaimer: This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links.

I received Laura Story's Open Hands CD in exchange for honest review from Flyby Blog Promotions. Listening to the CD was a challenge at first (had to send my Dell to the shop) but a friend sent me a new used pc, in exchange for social media cooperation. The CD and the PC arrived within a few days of each other. Note to self: develop great friendships and business relationships. You never know how God will bless you.

I haven't heard of Laura Story before, but I love Christian song. The first song, Death was arrested, was powerful. "When death was arrested and my life began". I also liked Open Hands, featuring Mac Powell from Third Day.

The CD was a beautiful worship cd.

About Laura Story and Open Hands

What the Lord is asking them is not, ‘You need to hold on tighter. You need to manage this better.’ What the Lord asks us is to surrender,” she offers, “It’s about learning to live with open hands, learning to live life in this constant state of saying, ‘Lord, my life is Yours. My time is Yours. My resources are Yours. All of this is Yours. Do what You will.’”

Story has built a life—and a career—around submission to her calling. She’s led worship at Atlanta’s
Perimeter Church for the past 12 years. In addition to penning songs recorded by artists like Chris
Tomlin, Story has found success as a recording artist in her own right. Since the release of her solo
debut in 2008, Story has amassed a GRAMMY® Award, a Billboard Music Award, multiple GMA Dove Awards and an RIAA Gold certification for her massive No. 1 hit “Blessings.”

In addition, she’s also the author of two books, including the latest: When God Doesnt Fix It - Lessons You Never Wanted to Learn, Truths You Cant Live Without .

Open Hands is the follow-up to 2013’s critically-acclaimed God of Every Story, and in the years that
have passed since her last release, Story has given birth to twins, making their brood a family of five.
Now, as a mom to three kids—Josie, Benjamin and Griffin—the posture of “open hands” feels more
necessary than ever before as she juggles ministry and motherhood.

"We never get to a point where we can do life apart from complete and total daily dependence on
Jesus,” Story admits. “The irony is the less control we have, the more peace we have and the more, I
would even say, success and joy we find. It’s a contrary picture to what the world tells us, but it’s
gaining through letting go.”

Open Hands’ fresh collection of originals blends Story’s signature congregational worship with intimate moments. “I wanted to make an album so that each song I write would be just that seed of hope or that lifeline that someone listens to during that tough moment and thinks, ‘I’m going to choose to trust God,even during this,’” Story shares. “I pray that God would speak through me in the midst of the music.”

A parade of A-list songwriters, including Matt Redman, Matt Maher, Mia Fieldes, Hank Bentley, Sarah Hart and Seth Mosley, among others, pepper the album’s 11 tracks. Through writing sessions both alone and with others, Story began to gradually see this common thread of surrender emerge.

“Rather than picking a theme and writing around it, a lot of times, it takes me writing to be able to step back and see what the themes are, not just of the record but of my life,” she says of her creative
process. “It was neat to step back and see that ‘open hands’ is a theme that ended up presenting itself rather than me choosing it.”

The title track—already a chart-topper prior to the album’s release—features guest vocals from Third
Day’s Mac Powell, a fellow Atlanta-native and Story’s longtime friend. “You Came Running” borrows imagery from the biblical narrative of the Prodigal Son. In true Story fashion, several selections (“Awake My Soul (1000 Tongues),” “For The Love of My King”) reimagine timeless hymns, which she refreshes with an original chorus.

“I’m pretty sure that the theology that I learned as a kid was from old hymns. It’s amazing, even now as an adult, how those hymns come back and really provide that sturdy foundation for life. It reminds me of how important it is for me to teach my kids those old hymns,” Story reflects, adding, “As long as I am singing, I will be singing hymns.”

Poignant piano ballad “Give You Faith” finds the singer pondering the legacy she wants to leave her
children. “The song is about releasing your kids into the hands of God,” she explains. “The most important thing that we could possibly give our children is to not just tell them about the faith that we
have but to live out that faith as a family. Sometimes that means not giving them everything they but showing them that the most important thing in my life isn’t even them—it’s actually my faith in Jesus
Christ—and just point them to Jesus.”

To that end, Story readily admits motherhood has impacted her songwriting on all levels. Thinking
specifically about her daughter, she says, “I’ve realized that these songs form people’s theology, and
they affect how this little girl is going to think about herself in the future. They might affect decisions that she makes in the future because of what she believes about God and what she believes about His
Word. I’ve changed as a songwriter with kids.”

Reflecting on the world her kids are growing up in, Story wrote the album’s sparse closer, “Grace
Abounds,” after weeks of turning on the television only to continue to watch stories of terror attacks,
extreme injustice and racial tension make headlines day after day. “It’s easy to lose heart, and the song is about just acknowledging the brokenness. First of all, we can’t just pretend like it doesn’t exist,” she advises. “When it seemingly doesn’t make sense, I’m choosing to believe that God’s grace is enough.

God’s grace is enough for any social injustice. God’s grace is enough for any loss that we go through.
God’s grace is enough for any loneliness that we experience, for any relational strain and for any
relational rejection.

“When it feels like hope can’t be found, when we don’t even know how we’re going to put one foot in front of the other,” she continues, “Scripture teaches us that’s when grace abounds.”

Story isn’t afraid to write about grace at work in the middle of unexpected, unexplainable situations. She can only write from experience and how she’s seen God redeem the darkest chapters of her own life.

“My greatest goal is always for my story to encourage listeners to believe that they, too, can live out
their faith in the midst of hard circumstances,” she says. “I truly believe that the songs we sing and thesongs we write act as the soundtrack for people’s faith. So I want to give people the most substantialtools that give them the clearest picture of who God is and who they are in Christ.”

The life of a songwriter is a sacred calling and one Story doesn’t take lightly whether she’s writing
songs for her church, for a new record or simply for herself as a cathartic release. “It’s not about my
songs or my story or even my artistry,” she asserts. “It really is about Him getting the glory for the work that I believe He has chosen to do through songwriters and through songs. It’s a unique work that He’s chosen to do there.”

She may lead others in worship through song on stages both big and small, but on a daily basis, Story
is intent on loosening her grip and choosing to live with open hands as an ultimate act of praise.

“Worship at the very core of what it is is ‘worth-ship.’ It’s the easiest definition I’ve ever heard of
worship. It’s giving God worth, and sometimes that means verbal adoration and praise. Sometimes
that’s showing Him worth with our calendars and our checking accounts.

No matter what it is, it always begins with open hands. It always begins with a willingness to say, ‘You are worth whatever cost you call me to give,’” she maintains. “Worship in its very core begins with surrender. That’s how we really show God that He’s worth it all.”

We Dream: Modern Lullabies to help you and your baby fall asleep (Tomoson)

Disclaimer: This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links.

I received Lullaby CD - Modern Instrumental Guitar Lullabies , in exchange for honest review from Tomoson. I wanted the cd to see if it helps calm Kalen down so he can go to sleep at night. Kalen is the king of naps, but since school started, his naps have declined and he wants to stay up until late at night. I don't want to rely on meds, (Brad is on two prescribed sleep meds) to help him sleep.

The cd is filled with sounds of water, such as the ocean. I think I heard rain too. Kalen was sleep within 30 minutes. He even slept in his own bed.

Ryan Judd, the creator of the collection, is a certified music therapist. The CD contains 7 instrumental selections:

  1. Drift Away
  2. Stay Awhile
  3. A Step Closer
  4. Storyteller
  5. DreamScape
  6. A Winter's Ballad
  7. Bittersweet

Christy Nockels "Let It Be Jesus" Album review (Fly By Blog Promotions)

Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by FlyBy Blog promotions. I received a MP3 copy of the cd for participation. No other compensation was provided. This post also contains Amazon Affiliate Links.

I received Christy Nockels, Let it Be Jesus
in exchange for honest review.

About Christy Nockels (from Media kit)

As a worship leader for many years, she has been an integral part of Passion Conferences from its inception in 1997. She's seen first hand music sweep people into the presence of God in a powerful way.

A pastor’s kid, who was born in Fort Worth and raised in Oklahoma, she grew up singing in church. She met her husband, Nathan, in 1993 at the Christian Artists Seminar in Estes Park, Co. They recorded an independent record with fellow worship leader Charlie Hall under the name Sons & Daughters that led to an invitation from Louie Giglio to participate in the first Passion conference in Austin.

Christy’s voice gained a national platform when she and Nathan formed the duo Watermark, recording four acclaimed albums before that musical season ended, paving the way for Christy’s solo career. In 2008, the couple moved to Atlanta to become part of Passion City Church where she serves on the worship team with sixstepsrecords labelmates Chris Tomlin and Kristian Stanfill. The following year, Nockels released her acclaimed solo debut, Life Light Up and spent much of the next two years touring with Tomlin and Passion.

My Review: (Pending. Will be up shortly).

One of the first songs, which stood out was the first song, Freedom song. My Anchor is also a beautiful song. "Oh Jesus, I hold on to you. and Jesus, you hold on to me. You're my anchor forever, my shelter in the storm, my deliver. You're the rock, I stand on. "

I also liked Everything is mine in you, a beautiful praise and worship ballad. I admit, I didn't like it at first, but when she hit the chorus and bridge, I fell in love with the song.

The entire cd is beautiful. I love the praise and worship. Great for when, you need a pick me up after a hard day with the kids.

A photo posted by Stacie D Wyatt (@sdwyatt1980) on
Let it go, let it go.....The cold doesn't bother me anyway, Yes. I received Baby Rockstar: Lullaby Renditions of Frozen, in exchange for honest review from Tomoson.

The CD features instrumental (lullaby) versions of the soundtrack to Frozen, such as Let it go, Love is an open door, and my favorite: Do you want to build a snow man. I recognized the songs, I loved the most from the movie. The CD is also a great way to relax at night, especially with my kids, who don't believe in going to bed.

Other songs include:

  1. Frozen Heart
  2. For the first time in forever
  3. Reindeers are better than people
  4. In summer
  5. For the first time in forever (reprise)
  6. Fixer Upper
  7. Vuelie
  8. Heimr Arnadalr
I was late to the Frozen game. I didn't understand what was the big deal about the movie.  I did love "Let it go" though, thanks to Disney Channel. When Disney Movie Club offered Frozen, I declined. I wish I hadn't though. A while back, Frozen came to Xfinity TV, on demand. I watched it and I loved it. I loved Do you want to build a snow man, For the first time in forever, and Love is an open door.  Wish they focused less on Anna and more on Elsa. :-)

You can purchase the CD here for $14.99

Glen Campbell I'll Be Me Review and Giveaway (FlyBy Blog Promotions)

This post was sponsored by FlyBy Blog Promotions. I received a free preview of the movie in response to the campaign. No other compensation was provided. All Opinions are my own.

About the Movie (from media kit)

In 2011, when Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he joined forces with his family to fight the biggest battle of his life. Glen and his wife, Kim, made history by going public with the diagnosis – the first time a major American celebrity would share this experience with the world. The Campbell family then embarked on a short “Goodbye Tour,” but the three-week engagement turned into an emotional and triumphant 151-show nationwide tour de force.

This epic human drama about the undying bond between Glen and Kim, and their unwavering caring for each other, chronicles a story of love, resilience and the power of song.

GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE ME is the true tale of how America’s greatest country star would not give up his music or his family, against all odds.

The film features those who know and love Glen, including Bruce Springsteen, Bill Clinton, The Edge, Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Vince Gill, Jimmy Webb, Blake Shelton, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Steve Martin, Chad Smith and Taylor Swift among many others. Rare vintage footage and extraordinary new performances of Glen’s most beloved hits immerse this moving cinematic account in the overwhelming talent of this humble family man. With joy and a tireless sense of humor, Glen and his family live each moment in the present while preparing for the future, all while playing their music to sold out venues on a star spangled voyage spanning the country from Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl.

The movie was produced by who produced Walk The Line

My Review

The movie is a documentary about Glen Campbell, who has Alzheimer's. The movie features clips from his performances, family, and friends. You also see Campbell in the beginning, watching the movie with this current wife, and she has to remind Campbell who was who in the movie.

From a caregiver perspective, I was touched. I have two special needs kids, who require me to change diapers, button and zip clothes, tie shoes, bathe, etc. His wife was smiling. I don't know what she was going through mentally, but she was still smiling on the outside.

You also see footage of Campbell during medical treatment, such as taking an MRI or talking with his doctor or talking with his wife, while waiting on treatment.

Relaxation CDs By Jeff Gold Product Review

I received Escapes by Jeff Gold, in addition to Sleep Well for Kids: Relax at bedtime CD's in exchange for honest review. Jeff responded to my post on PitchRate for Autism products and supplies. I have bought relaxation cds before (the infamous Autism CD) and it irritated me more than the kids. It had two sounds I am not a fan of: Thunder and lightning. The CD calmed my kids, but caused me a headache.

About Jeff Gold: (copied from Email)

California native Jeff Gold is a composer/musician who creates imagery through music; images that are emotional and melodic, restorative and uplifting. He composes soulful relaxing instrumentals which have received the attention of Wellness Centers, Spas and Music Therapists for their tranquil and healing qualities. Combining beautifully arranged acoustic guitars, piano, strings and flutes, Jeff has released two CD's "Soul of a Mountain" in 2006, and "Escapes" in 2009. Both area soothing and relaxing collection of melodies ideal for music therapy, yoga, massage, scenic drives or just winding down.

Jeff's 14-year old special needs nephew, Russell, became a big fan of these soothing instrumentals because they help to calm his overstimulation. Russell then passed his uncle's music on to his other friends on the autistic spectrum and they found that it is helpful to them as well. Jeff is also a contributing writer and music advisor to EXPERIENCE | PREMCHIT resorts, located throughout Europe and Asia, researching and writing articles on the physical, mental and therapeutic effects that are possible with music.

Jeff composes and arranges all of his own music, playing the guitars and pianos, and creating other instrumental sounds by computer. He also does his own mixing, mastering and editing; a skill he perfected as a television editor for shows like MTV's Making the Video, Baywatch, MadTV, and The Office. Jeff has also teamed up with hypnotherapist, Janet Montgomery to produce seven guided imagery CD's for The Live Well Series. Topics include sleeping soundly, stress management, and coping with cancer treatment.

Escapes Review:

Escapes has acoustic guitars, piano, strings, and flutes. I liked Escapes because it was simply music and no vocals. It is a beautiful, instrumental CD. One of my favorites was Del Playa, the first song. I think I can hear piano and strings.

Escapes is $7 for download and $12 for the CD. The CD is a little over 60 minutes long.

Sleep Well for Kids CD
Sleep Well for Kids Review:

The Sleep Well CD is a guided relaxation CD. It is narrated by Janet Montgomery with music by Jeff Gold.

It requires participation from the children. The CD requires them to have an active imagination/visual imagery as well. The children are going on a journey. The first step is to get comfortable and snuggly. Then, take a nice deep breathe in and out. They can close eyes, relax face, relax neck, and loose shoulders.  Children have to picture trees, flowers, the butterflies. Bubbles popping. You can blow away your worries, concerns, problems.

The CD is $15 dollars. The CD is about 30 minutes long.

CourtYard Hounds Album Review

I reviewed The Courtyard Hounds album, Amelita, in response to a One2One campaign. I received a digital copy of the music. The copy and album images was provided by One2One.
    About the Band:
Emily Robinson and sister, Martie Maguire started this band to share something new with their fans. Amelita is their second album. Robinson and Maguire, who was part of the Dixie Chicks, have not been in the spotlight in years. The album contain 11 tracks. Since the first album, Robinson has got divorced, which lent a new perspective to the music.

“I’ve been freed of all of those time-heals-everything kind of things,” says Robison. “Now, I’ve opened up to other ideas and ways of looking at life and the world. I think it’s not only a more hopeful album, but it’s more… well fun."
"I love this band...the way we explore new aspects of ourselves and what we can expect from each other, both musically and as people," says Martie. "We are close. Plus, being on the road and being in the studio is like my spa from the everyday challenges of just being a mom.”

    Amelita Track Listing:
    1. Sunshine
    2. Amelita
    3. The World Smiles
    4. Aimless Upward
    5. Guy Like You
    6. Rock All Night
    7. Phoebe
    8. Divided
    9. Gets You Down
    10. Watch Your Step
    11. The Road You Take
    My Review:
I knew of the Dixie Chicks, but didn't know any songs by them. So, this was a first experience to me to listen to two former members. The album was kind of slow on some songs, catchy on others, and folksy on others. I can picture the band with long flowing hair, with flowers in their hair, with a guitar in the 60's and 70's. The girls was excellent. The songs all had a message. nothing controversial and nothing sexual. yay.  I got the digital copy of the cd last week. One of the first songs, which stood out was Sunshine. It was about someone, who likes to bring people down and who can kill the vibe in the room. Not sure if it's sarcasm, but the person is called Sunshine. Amelita was a good song, but the beat was sampled. The music sounded familiar, but I don't know from where. Amelita was very catchy. It has a spanish/latin vibe to it. Sounds like trumpets and drums. Amelita sounds like a woman, who has gone through some things with a man, and the song is trying to tell her it's not the end of the world. Amelita can move on with her life. The World Smiles is a hope song. The world smiles, if I believe in the good stuff and I open my eyes up. Aimless Upward had a good beat and message. It talked about moving forwards, despite the storms, trials, and tribulations. My eyes are wide. Aimless upward, I will rise and I'll be fine to take my time. Take my time. A guy like you was a slower song. She wants things to work out with a guy, like him. Someone who will smile and be there for you. Rock all night had a rock vibe to it. Do anything to feel alive. Rock is like a himalayan ride. I'm gonna rock all night. Phoebe had a country feel to it. Divided was a good song. She wants him to stay. It has a catchy beat as well. we spend our days together and our nights alone. so stay a little longer. don't let this feeling go to waste. when the sun comes up, i want to be there when you wake. Gets you down is another slower song. Sounds like it has a few wind instruments in the background. You can always love me. You can always love me. You can always love me. and if it don't feel right, at least you tried. but did't you try. Watch your step has a rock vibe. The road you take is another catchy tune, but on a medium pace. not too fast and not to fast. I am not alone. I can journey alone. I will leave it all to faith. It's the choice you make. It's the road you take.
