Healthy Slow Cooking Book Review (Third Voice Marketing)

Disclaimer: This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links and Images.

I read All About Healthy Slow Cooking: A Very Quick Guide, in exchange for honest review from Third Voice Marketing. The book was written by Linda Larsen.

What I liked about the book was it encourages healthier cooking in the slow cooker. For me, I normally cook rice and beans or a whole bird in the crock pot.  I even tried chicken veggie soup. Maybe a pot of chili or cheese. I never truly experimented with the crock pot.

The first section focused on basic crockpotting: the sizes, temperatures, features. I never knew crocks came in all those types, such as heating up to stove temperatures. The book also briefly discussed pressure cookers (which I want one day) and rice cookers (which I have. Need a new one).

I also liked the preparation and cooking tips throughout the book. Some of the don'ts, I have been guilty of or I know someone, who has. Don't put the ceramic pot in the stove, like my sister did. Don't put frozen foods in the crock pot (like I have).

Some recipes I liked included the Marinara Sauce, the chicken noodle soup, and the wild rice soup since I eat a lot of rice. I also was drawn to the honey mustard chicken and veggies.

You can purchase this book on Amazon. The book is available in Kindle and Paperback format. The book is also prime-eligible.

BakeitFun Baking Mat Review (Tomoson)

This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links.

I received the #1 BakeitFun Non-Stick Silicone Baking Mat With Ruler - 16-1/2" x 11" - Free eBook - 100% Money-Back Guaranteed - Premium Fiberglass Liner - Silpat Style - Easy Cleanup - Toaster Oven & Freezer Safe - Cookie, Macaron & Pastry Sheet Uses - Certified FDA Approved - Kids Friendly - BakeitFun Premium Bakeware Silicone Baking Mat With Measurements, in exchange for honest review from Tomoson.

I have grown to love silicon cookware. The silicone is easy to clean and maintain.

I made a batch of cookies, well tried to, with the mat, but the oven decided not to work. I put the batter in the freezer and then, placed in the microwave as needed. The mat allowed me to remove one frozen cookie at a time, without issue.

Definitely will use the mat more once someone comes to fix the oven.

The mat also fits inside some microwaves.

Oven Art Silicon Pan Review (Tomoson)

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I reveiwed OvenArt Silicone Bakeware - Muffin Pan / Cupcake Pan - 12 Cup Muffin Tin - 100% BPA-Free - Nonstick, Easy to Clean Muffin Tray in exchange for honest review from Tomoson. I wanted to review the muffin pan because I never used silicon pans before. I have heard great things about silicon bakeware before though.

I was a little skeptical at first, but after the first batch of muffins, I was impressed. The pans are easy to use. Simply spray with non stick spray or whatever you like to use--maybe olive oil or flour and butter.
Place the silicon pans on a baking or cookie sheet. Then fill with batter, whether cupcakes, muffins, or even eggs.

Place in the oven and cook. Take out the oven, let cool, remove your cooking creation goodness from the pan. The pans are also easy to clean.

I have made muffins, cupcakes, and eggs in the pans. I made some peanut butter, oat meal muffins, with a peanut butter, chocolate chip frosting. Then, I made chocolate chip muffins, using chocolate chips and bisquick. Finally, I made eggs with spinach, tomatoes, and panko.

I definitely will continue to buy the pans as needed in the future. Maybe 2-3 more.

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I reviewed Cookn Recipe Organizer, in response to a campaign on Tomoson. I also received a coupon code for a  free cookbook, (101 entertaining recipes),  which works with the software.

I wanted to review the software because I love to cook and I love to eat.

Features of Cook'n

Cook'n is a downloadable recipe organizer. Cook'n allows you to enter your favorite recipes. Create shopping lists. Save recipes from websites. Create menus. You also can purchase over 150 cookbooks from the website.

In the future, Cook'n will be available as a mobile app.

When you load up the app, you first see a live recipe feed,  filled with plenty of recipes. You can click on a recipe to go to the website.

You also can enter your own recipes. You can enter in ingredients, serving sizes, prep time, cooking time, photos and videos.

Another great feature is you can generate a shopping list from a recipe.

Other features I liked:

  • I liked how you can log into social media and pull up photos and videos. You also can pull up your boards from Pinterest. I pulled up my food board into Cook'n.
  • You can create a menu planner from a recipe, not to mention a shopping list.

#Fall4Mushrooms Campaign (One 2 One Network)

This post was brought to you in part by #Fall4Mushrooms, courtesy of One 2 One network. September is National Mushroom Month. Mushrooms come in different varieties. I know there is Shiitake, Portobello, and wild.  I normally get the sliced, white button,  mushrooms in the store. They are usually white and I toss them in a lot of things. I love mushrooms. I grown to love them more as an adult than when I was a child. I add them to salads and meals.
Mushroom and White Bean Tostada - January Featured Recipe via @Kristen @DineandDish

Some Facts about Mushrooms (paraphrased from email and the website)

Mushrooms are the only fresh veggie, which has Vitamin D

Mushrooms help add flavor and nutrients to your plate.

Mushrooms can be incorporated into any meal, morning, noon, or night. You can make a philly cheese steak or top some eggs with mushrooms. You can make a nice salad. I even saute some tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms. Add a little avocado, salsa, or chicken. That is a good snack or meal. Maybe you can add them to pasta or rice. Check out the Pinterest board for more ideas.

Some recipes I liked from the Pinterest board included the Mushroom and White Bean Tostada;Brie and Cranberry stuffed mushrooms; Mushroom PinWheels; Mushroom Bruschetta; Grilled Mushroom Flatbread. I also liked the Chicken Cordon Blue Sandwiches; The Portobello Mushroom Sandwich (which uses a big portobello as the bun, and tomato and cheese in the middle)

Mushrooms can grow indoors and available year round

Mushrooms can pick up a lot of flavor from other foods.

Mushrooms can be sauteed, grilled, boiled, roasted, stuffed, baked and eaten raw.

Wild mushrooms may be poisonous. It is best to buy from a trusted source.

Red Gold Fun Food Recipe Hop

I participated in the Red Gold Fun Food Recipe Hop. The promotion was in conjunction with the summer grilling party. The company sent me a box of tomatoes, jalapeno ketchup, 2 aprons, and recipe cards. I made a chicken chili. I got hell because I used chili over ground beef, but ground beef is not part of my approved list of foods for Revolt fitness.

The soup had chicken breast strips, black beans, brown rice, Red Gold Lime Juice and Cilantro Tomatoes, Red Gold Diced Tomatoes, Tomato Sauce, Tomato Paste, Bell pepper, and the Lime Gold Chili Ready Tomatoes, and Crushed onions (the whole bottle). I also took some peppered cheese sticks and added them as well.  I mixed everything together, seasoned the pot, and let it cook for about 30 minutes.

I also made tortilla chips and a cheese sauce. The chili was topped with guacamole and sour cream.

Since I don't eat spicy foods, my niece has been using the jalapeno ketchup in everything she has eaten this week. She loves it. I did try it though. It tastes good.

I also used the Red Gold Basil, Garlic, and Oregano Tomatoes in Cabbage Soup. The soup had red cabbage, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili seasoning, brown rice,  black eyed peas, and the Red Gold Tomatoes. I boiled the cabbage first, then added the other ingredients.

Join the twitter party using hashtag #rgparty. Enter for a chance to win the Red Gold Sweepstakes, which includes a grand prize for a Green Egg Grill.

Cooking with Home canned foods book review (Tomoson)

I reviewed Cooking with Home canned foods, in exchange for review from Tomoson. The book was written by Rhiana Jones. The link contains my affiliate link.

The book discussed how to cook with canned foods. The book is not about cooking with canned goods, but food, people can themselves. My grandma used to can and jar her own vegetables. My daddy and niece love to pickle peppers from my mama garden. Instead of letting canned foods sit on the shelf, the book helps you get the cans off the shelves and incorporate them into cooking.

The book provides recipes, in addition to preservation and canning websites for your reference. Some of my favorite recipes was the desserts and salsas. I loved the chicken and salsa casserole and stuffed peppers. I also liked the black bean quesadillas. I love beans (pinto, black, navy, kidney, chili). I will have to try the quesadillas at some point in the future. The chicken taco soup sounds good as well. It is a slow cooker recipe, which means I don't have to slave over a hot stove and it fits into my healthier lifestyle.

For fruits and Veggie, I liked the Peach Horchata and Pumpkin Pancakes. I also liked the strawberry trifle and strawberry banana smoothie.

Each chapter focuses on one ingredient or canned/preserved item, such as corn, beans, mushrooms, and jams. The book was a quick read on the kindle. The book is .99 on Amazon and free to borrow on Kindle.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
