Last week I picked up a copy of the Better Homes & Gardens newest Halloween Tricks & Treats edition for 2014. Normally I head straight to Pinterest when looking for ideas and inspiration but I am loving the quick and clever creations within the pages of this seasonal magazine. Inspired by a set of bright green pretzel rods decorated with eyeballs, I re-created my own version of spooky salted sticks. Progresso Chili Review (Plateful Co-Op)

I reviewed a Progresso kit in exchange for honest review from Plateful Co-Op. The kit contained two flavors of Progresso chili, a bowl, a wooden box, a chili bowl, and a gift card.

The flavors of chili included Smokehouse Pork and Beef Bean Chili and Southwest Style White Chili with Beans.

According to the acceptance e-mail, the Smokehouse pork has andouille sausage, and beef. The chili also contains green sweet peppers, pinto beans, and red kidney beans. On the other hand, the Southwest chili has all-white meat chicken, green sweet peppers, tomatillos, onions, and white beans.

Both chilis was amazing. I ate the smokehouse chili as is, while topping the chicken chili with a little cheese and mixing it in.

I would love to top the chicken chili with cheese, sour cream, and guac in the future. Maybe a biscuit.

The chili made enough for 1-2 servings. For my family, I would need a few packs, plus some toppings and mix-ins to make everyone full.

OPI Avo Juice Coconut Melon Hand and Body Lotion Product Review (Tomoson)

I received OPI Avo Juice Hand and Body Lotion in exchange for honest review from Tomoson. The lotion has a light scent and helps moisturize the skin. The lotion contains Avocado, Coconut, Vitamin E, and other Melon extracts.

While, I am not a fan of coconut, I was pleasantly surprised by the lotion. The lotion is so refreshing and makes my skin feel soft. I also use it on my boys, especially my youngest, who learned how to pump out the lotion and rub it on his belly and in his hair.

The lotion comes with a pump for easy dispensing.

The lotion is also reasonably priced. Both sizes of the lotion are under $20 bucks. The lotion comes in 6.6 fl oz and 20 oz.

The product comes in a small jar, which makes the product easy to use. I use the butter on my face, belly, arms, and legs, etc. My youngest also loved using the butter on his arms, legs, and feet. Great product.

Since the product is in jar form, you may have to use a little elbow grease to get the amount needed. My youngest also made it harder for me since, he has stuck his little fingers all in the butter, leaving the surface full of ridges, versus smooth lol. He also left a few hidden surprises in the butter, such as styrofoam from a organizer, I installed recently and some strands of hair. 

A little shea butter goes a long way. You also can use the shea butter for lotions and soaps.

My Review

I knew of Train from Soul Sista, but I didn't know any of their other music. The digital cd was refreshing. I loved Bullet Proof Picasso (Track 2). "We don't need a reason because you got me tonight."

I also loved "Wonder what you're doing for the rest of your life". The song was upbeat and catchy. " That falsetto was point on. Give it all" was very beautiful. Just a memory was also upbeat and catchy. "Love I give...Is there anything else."

Next, Son of a Prison Guard and Angel in Blue jeans is growing on me.

I liked the music so much, I went to Google Play and added more of Train's music to my library.

Book Review

The book starts out with Callie, on a plane, who just was recently fired from a popular TV show for lateness. Callie is heading to France to take a breather. Once there, she learns her best friend has a new job and is moving to Paris, leaving her friendless in California.

Then, while checking her emails, she has an offer for a job, in addition to an email from a woman, claiming to be her long-lost-sister. This meant, her father, who died years ago, had to cheat on Callie's mother. She hires a private investigator to determine if this sister is telling the truth or not.

The first few pages was beautifully written and descriptive, which made me want to read more. The book explores Callie's relationships between friends and not to mention herself. She has to keep it together, no matter what problems she is going through.

Biblical Beauty by Rachelle Weisberger Book Review (Tomoson)

I read Biblical Beauty: Ancient Secrets and Modern Solutions by Rachelle Weisberger, in exchange for honest review from Tomoson. I received a paperback copy of the book. I wanted to review the book because the title was interesting.  I knew women beautified themselves in the bible, such as for cleaning rituals after childbirth and menstruation, but I did not know much.

In the book ,Weisberger discusses skin and sun care, make-up, hair, fragrance, jewelry, aging, mother hood, and feminine leadership. The book consists of 18 chapters in 2 parts. The first half focuses on beauty secrets, the second half focuses on motherhood and feminine leadership. Part 1 is 14 chapter and part 2 is 4 chapters.

Some of the things, I learned is how Israelites used olive oil to moisturize the face. Or we should use more abrasive salts for the body and not the face. Scrubs, which contain nuts or seeds, should also be used on the body, instead of the face. This part was interesting because I have an almond body scrub.

Weisberger also provided information on skin types and the science behind taking care of your skin and body from a modern standpoint, as well as a biblical standpoint. The biblical and modern are in two chapters. The bible standpoint comes first, followed by the modern viewpoint.

For example, for sun care, in the bible, people sat in the shade to protect the skin from the sun. The wealthy also used a solution made from salt, honey, and natron (not sure what this is) as a bronzer. Water was also important to keep from dehydrating.

Another example is make-up. In the biblical days, women used make-up to adorn the eyes, such as a homemade mascara and eye shadow (Kohl). The kohl served multiple purposes; make-up, bug repellant, and it prevented infection.
