I read Apocalyptic Tremors in exchange for honest review. The book was written by C.R. Chapman. The book helps people study the Book of Revelations in the bible.  I have read the Book of Revelations before and it is a scary, yet beautiful chapter. From the Earth's last days, to a description of Satan, and a description of Heaven, Revelation is an interesting chapter to read. Revelations contains symbolism as well.

God provided John a great vision of what is to come, but Revelations can be a hard chapter to read. Things, which have confused me is the 144,000 people, who will be raptured. When I first read the book, I thought this was all the people going to Heaven and the millions of other people in the world was doomed to Hell.

I also was confused about the first and second rapture, but I do love how people can still get saved during tribulation. The author did provide a chapter about tribulation. Chapman discussed how tribulation can be a time of joy, a time of testing, a time of punishment, and a time of persecution. Christians will be tested and killed for their beliefs during tribulation. I hope there is not too many plenty of Peter moments during this time (denying God). The author also said tribulation can be a time of deliverance from hell to eternal life.

I admit parts of the book was hard to understand, no matter how many times I read parts over again. This book and the book of Revelations is meant to be read slow for understanding.

I do like the diagram, which explains Revelations seals, trumpets and bowls. The author provides plenty of charts to help explain Revelations.

Parables (Book Look Bloggers)

I read Parables: The Mysteries of God's Kingdom Revealed Through the Stories Jesus Told, in exchange for honest and unbiased review. The book was written by John Macarthur.

I struggled with reading this book, especially the prologue. The prologue was very detailed and contained a lot of valuable information.  This is one of those books, where you need to read it slow to absorb the information. I am a fast reader so that was hard to do at times.

The book starts out describing what a parable is and why Jesus used parables in the bible. A parable is a simple story with a message. Macarthur said a parable "illustrated a precept, proposition, or principle." Parables told a lesson about the "mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven."

One thing, which stood out immediately was Macarthur said "the method and meaning behind Jesus;s use of these stories are frequently misunderstood and misrepresented." Some people thought parables provided a simple message, accessible to people at all levels. Some thought parables is a better method for teaching the truth.

The book's chapters also discusses one parable at a time, such as the first chapter discussed  the Sabbath.

I read All You Want to Know About the Bible in Pop Culture: Finding Our Creator in Superheroes, Prince Charming, and Other Modern Marvels, in exchange for honest review from BookLook Bloggers. The book was written by Kevin Harvey.

The book discusses how God is seen in pop culture. From how Superman has similarities to Jesus. Superman came from another land to be a light unto the world. He saved the world too. Batman also took the blame for things, he did not do so people of Gotham City would have hope. Jesus also died for our sins so we can have everlasting life. Thor died and was resurrected too.

The book also discussed one of my favorite movies, Bruce Almighty. In the movie, Jim Carrey was given godly powers. The power came with a dog, who peed in the toilet and other things, which should not have happened. :-). The author discussed how people in the bible were given tasks to do, but they failed. Moses was supposed to strike a rock to get water, but he did not trust God. Because of his actions, the people were in the wilderness longer than they wanted. David killed Bathsheba's husband.

Another thing, I liked in the book is the side notes. One of the side notes, discussed superheroes, not discussed in the book, such as Wolverine and Ghost Rider. Another side note, discussed why Jezebel will never be a Disney Princess. Of course, Anna and Elsa are in the book too. Anna wanted to save her sister and was frozen for a moment as a result. Anna was able to warm Elsa's heart and they lived together in harmony with a talking snowman. The book also discusses Rapunzel, The Croods, Despicable Me, and witches.

I also liked the chapter, Now I see it, Now I don't. The author provides the good, bad, and ugly on characters , such as Sheldon Cooper's mother.

The book is a great and interesting read.

Rise: Get up and Live in God's Great Story by Trip Lee Book Review (BookLook Bloggers)

I read Rise: Get Up and Live in God's Great Story by Trip Lee in exchange for honest review from Book Look Bloggers. I have heard of Trip Lee before. He is an amazing Christian hip-hop artist. I choose to review the electronic edition of the book.

I wanted to review the book because sometimes, we need to rise up and do the work of God, instead of thinking this life is all about us. In church on Sunday, we learned how Jesus died on the cross for us so we can live for him. He didn't give up his life so we can do our will. Not our will, but his. Jesus's death paid the ransom for sin, so we can live again.

Lee started out discussing how his life had changed when he became a Christian as a teenager. I also loved this views on the 7:00 am logic. I, too, have to force myself out of bed each morning, if I want my kids to get ready and catch the school bus. Waiting a few extra minutes can be the difference between them staying at home or getting an excellent education.

Next, I liked how he discussed how we have expectations of what we want our lives to be, but it doesn't always go according to our plans. Lee says while we are not perfect, we are not worthless either. We may be broken but God can put us back together. (reminds me of a Lecrae song). Lee says the only way we can rise is if we rise with Him. This book is an excellent read.

The Passion Principles: Celebrating Sexual Freedom in Marriage Book Review (Book Look Bloggers)

I received The Passion Principles: Celebrating Sexual Freedom in Marriage in exchange for honest review from Book Look Bloggers (formerly Book Sneeze). I received a paperback copy of the book. The book was written by Sharon Ethridge. I have read one of her other books before, The Fantasy Fallacy, which discusses how fantasies may cause unwanted expectations in relationships. When I reviewed Etheridge's other book, I was celibate for two years. Currently, I been celibate for four years. I have read books about purity and celibacy, but this is one of the first books, I have read about sex and marriage.

The book is Christian and written from a marriage point of view. The book teaches how to experience sexual freedom in marriage. I was married for five years and hated sex with a passion. I didn't want to be touched, let alone communicate what I liked and didn't like.

I had little sexual experience before I got married and that was a big factor.

The book is spiritual, enlightening, and in some cases funny. Etheridge said if any passages in the book offends you, get a sharpie and cross them out, but keep reading the book. :-) The book also has questions for reflection, such as "What kind of sex-negative messages have you received in life?) (p. 10).

My favorite parts of the book included. (pages numbers first)

P. 4: "If Christian couples cannot have phenomenal sex lives given the personal spiritual connection we have with the Author and originator of sex, then who in the world can?"

P. 7 The section, which starts at the bottom of page 7, which asks "How is your relationship with God sexual in nature?"

P. 11 The section about Why does God Say we have to be married to have sex?
