Eclipse Sun Sleeves Product Review

I reviewed Eclipse Sun Sleeves, in exchange for review from Tomoson. I received a pair of sun sleeves in Mocha. The sun sleeves are worn like gloves on your arms and hands. There is a hole for your thumb as well. The material is very thin, like stockings, and stretchable. The sleeves help protect your arms against 98% of UV rays.

As soon As I got them in the mail, I tried them on and went for a walk with the boys. I live in Texas, so it's hot. Even when I walk around the block, I put on sunscreen and bring a bottle of water for me and Brad, plus a cup of water for Kalen. 8 minutes around the block without protection will  leave anyone sweating. The sleeves was very comfortable and stayed dry.

The gloves come in various colors and sizes: Mocha, Graphite, Latte, Leopard, Pewter, Polka Dot, Orange, White, and Aqua. The sizes are small, medium, and large.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Vegas and the Cosmic Mob Book Blast

Cosmic Blast
Vegas and the Mob

The truth about Las Vegas, unlike the watered-down versions you might have heard elsewhere. Sin City was the Mob’s greatest venture and most spectacular success, and through forty years of frenzy, the FBI watched, listened on phone tapes, and did virtually nothing. Thank goodness for that, because Vegas wouldn’t be what it is today without the Mob!

CoverVegasandtheMobTwo of the nation’s most powerful crime family heads went to prison in the 1930’s, Al Capone, and Lucky Luciano. Frank Nitti took over the Chicago Outfit while, Frank Costello ran things for the Luciano Family. Both men were influenced by their bosses from prison, and both sent enough gangsters onto the streets to influence loan sharking, extortion, union control, and drug sales.

Bugsy Siegel worked for both groups, handling a string of murders and opening up gaming on the west coast, and that included Las Vegas, an oasis of sin in the middle of the desert – and it was legal. Most of it. The FBI watched as the Mob took control of casino after casino, killed off the competition, and stole enough money to bribe their way to respectability back home.

New York’s “Lucky Luciano” was getting a taste of the profits in the 1930’s, Detroit, Kansas City, and Chicago weren’t far behind. By the 1940’s, nearly every crime family in the United States had a stake in a Las Vegas casino. Some did better than others. Vegas casino owners watched-over their profits while competing crime families eyed each other’s success like jealous lovers. Murder often followed.

At the time he had never seen such an amazing array of sights, sounds, and exciting games. Little has changed since that first introduction. Moe is the author of six books and has written for Gambling Times/Poker Player, Pokernews.com and Casino and Gaming Chips Magazine. His love for casinos and the history of gambling are only exceeded by the thrill he gets learning new casino games and his desire to teach new players how to get the most for their money at the casino.

Education:

Moe attended the University of Nevada at Reno and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Marketing. He especially enjoys the disciplines of probability and statistics.

From Al W Moe:

Casinos and the games they offer have occupied my thinking most of my life. The early casino owners, especially when it involved the Mob in Las Vegas are a fascinating subject. It is amazing the Mob was able to skim the profits of clubs in Nevada for over 40 years. The story of how they did it is even more amazing!

My Books Giveaway

For the Month of June, I am giving away one of my books (paperback). Either, Chocolate Kisses, Love.Lust.Life., or Conversations.

Product DetailsChocolate Kisses is a book of poetry, dedicated to a former addicktion of mine. The book does contain sexual content. Started writing poems about him in 2005. The book ended up as therapy. Finishing it meant ending an addiction.

Product DetailsLove.Lust.Life. is another book of poetry. It does contain sexual content but covers other topics. My second book of poetry focuses on three aspects of my life. This book is more in depth with my feelings, emotions, struggles. Most of the poems were written between 2008 to 2010. I went through a crush, a miscarriage, graduation from school. I went through a lot mentally. Love.Lust.Life. was originally the first book and Chocolate Kisses was a part of LLL. I decided to break the two apart to separate two aspects of my life. Love focuses on being in love, unrequited love, the fantasy of being in love. Lust focuses on my sexuality. Life focuses on some of the things I went through

Product DetailsConversations is a collection of short stories, I wrote. 3 was written for a contest for Lulu. One started out as a novel for NaNoWriMo, but I did not finish. and the last deals with some thoughts I have about sexuality.

The stories include:

  • Conversing with Normality was about a conversation I had with my oldest child, who is autistic. He was hungry and I was struggling to figure out what to feed him, when we had nothing to eat.
  • Conversing with Salvation was about a conversation I had with God about my Children's salvation. Will Brad truly understand God's grace and mercy? It is my responsibility to make sure my son learns about God, despite his disabilities.
  • Miscarried was about the pain I felt dealing with multiple miscarriages. The story became 600 words of therapy for me.
  • Conversing with Sexuality discusses my journey towards Celibacy.
  • First Attempt is a mini-short story, I wrote for National Novel Writing Month. This is the beginning of a story, based on things, which occurred between my sons and I.

Hacking KickStarter Book Review

I read Hacking Kickstarter, in exchange for review from Tomoson. The book was written by Patrice Williams Marks. The book discusses how to properly use and raise money for Crowdfunding websites, such as Indiegogo, Kickstarter, and Gofundme.

Crowdfunding allows people to post their projects, which need additional funding online. People donate money to the project until the goal is reached. The investors may also receive perks based on money given. Some crowdfunding projects may include investing money to produce a demo tape, fund a trip to Timbuktu, or help publish a book.

The project creator has to be willing to invest the time and patience into a crowdfunding project to ensure success.

Now, on to the book:

First, Marks discussed some things a successful project should incorporate:

  1. A video. Talk about the project. Discuss how the money will be used. and don't forget to thank the investors/funders.
  2. A website. Post regular updates about the project. Buy a domain or do a free domain. Incorporate videos and pictures.
  3. Perks and rewards. Offer something good.
  4. Contact Information. Name, email, phone numbers. Bio, picture of you.
  5. Testimonials. Get quotes from supporters. Use their full name.
  6. Consider costs and timeline of the project.
  7. Research similar projects to find acceptable goals.
  8. Don't start the project until everything is in place.
Marks also discusses how a successful crowdfund should start 6 months before the launch. Gather supporters. Give them a preview of your project. Set up a mailing list and a pop-up service. Start a twitter account and create a Facebook fan page. You also need to create a media list, a press release, sample pitches, and infographics. Finally, Marks provides tips for re-launching failed projects and a list of crowdfunding websites.

One negative was the font was a little hard to read. I increased the font size on Adobe, but the text remained the same. I definitely could have used a larger font.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Broken Build Book Review

I read Broken Build by Rachelle Ayala, in exchange for review from Tomoson.

The book is available in paperback and kindle.

About the book: (paraphrased from Amazon)

Jennifer wants to let go of her past. She gets a job in Silicon Valley in a start-up company. Then, she gets involved in blackmail, murder, and broken code. The manager of the company, David starts to investigate Jennifer when a man, last seen with her, is found dead. Both parties must stop a killer while saving someone from their past.

My review:

This book brought challenges--to read--not because of the author--but because of technology. Once again, kindle for pc kept freezing and the kindle--the formatting was off. I copied the wrong format to the kindle. Definitely considering using Adobe Digital Editions to review books at first, before trying to read on my kindle or kindle app. Or using Cloud reader on Google.

Other than that--on to the book:

The beginning was descriptive. Jen is being blackmailed by The muscle man. She changed her name and people still know of her past.  The blackmailer knows where she lives, even drops off notes to her house. Jen even used to date his brother, who died.   Jen is a build engineer, I think, working on a program as well.  Her purse with phone was stolen a few days before. The muscle man, who wants more from Jen, that what she is willing to give. She is helping him with coding. Jen gave him part of a company code to help with a college class. Jen could be fired for this, along with a few other things, if they pulled a background check. Then, something major occurs, which puts Jen in the middle of an investigation as a person of interest. Can't tell you now, but read the book. .99 on kindle.

Rey, the muscle man, is still dealing with the death of his brother. He wants the code to have a better life, in addition to getting custody of his daughter.

Then, you have David Jewell, the CEO of Jen's company. The company is working on a shopping program, but the coding is still broken. The software finished on time--will help the company go public. If the software fails, the company may face layoffs.

I started reading the book this week and it was very good. Very intense. There is a crime, an investigation, and people, trying to keep their past, past.

MoonWalk NYC

Walk the Walk Brings Their Iconic Overnight Marathon, The MoonWalk, to New York City

Women and Men to Power Walk in Bras for Breast Cancer Causes. New York, NY

Important Points:

  • Walk the Walk will occur in New York, City on July 20th at 10 pm.
  • The Walk is presented by Empire BlueCross Blue Shield.
  • The Walk will start at Randall's Island, then walking throughout Manhattan past iconic landmarks. The walk will also be lit up bright.
  • There are two courses to ensure participation from everyone to match fitness abilities: Half Moon (13.1 miles) and the Full Moon (26.3 miles)
  • Most of the fundraising from MoonWalk NYC will be granted to Memorial Sloan-Ketting Cancer Center to support the Breast Examination Center in Harlem
  • Since the first walk in London, MoonWalk has over 300,000 participants and has raised over 126 million dollars to support breast cancer causes.

In July 2013, Walk the Walk will bring The MoonWalk marathon from the United Kingdom to America for the first time to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer causes. At 10 p.m., on July 20, 2013, thousands of women and men will Power Walk through the city wearing brightly decorated bras to inspire and encourage others to get fit, have fun, and raise money for breast cancer charities in New York. Presented by Empire BlueCross BlueShield, the overnight marathon through New York City will have an estimated 8,000 participants. The MoonWalk will begin with a participant opening ceremony celebration at Randall’s Island. Walkers will then depart on an up to 26.2 mile route, which will weave its way through Manhattan past the city’s most iconic landmarks, lit up brightly at night. Additionally, there will be a Half Marathon option to ensure that everyone can participate no matter their fitness levels or abilities. “One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and we have the opportunity to step out in force and visibly demonstrate our commitment to raising the funds needed to help wipe out this potentially life-threatening disease,” said Brian Griffin, President and CEO, Empire BlueCross BlueShield. “Almost every one of us has been touched by breast cancer in some way. That's why Empire is so passionate about helping fight this disease through our sponsorship of The Moonwalk.”

The MoonWalk hopes to raise two million dollars in one night, most of which most of which will be granted to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, to help support their Breast Examination Center in Harlem (BECH), one of the first free screening facilities for breast cancer in the country where 80% of the patients are uninsured but guaranteed support and guidance. “We are deeply grateful that Walk the Walk is bringing The MoonWalk Marathon to New York City to benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Breast Examination Center in Harlem,” says Richard K. Naum, Vice President for Development at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. “That such a dynamic and inventive fundraising initiative would
support world-class health care for the very population most in need of assistance is a true inspiration to us all.” Since its inception sixteen years ago in London, Walk the Walk, a grant making charity, has engaged over 300,000 participants and has raised over $126 million dollars to support breast cancer research and those affected by cancer now. Walk the Walk has provided grants to charities such as Breast Cancer Campaign, Penny Brohn Cancer Care, The Breast Cancer Institute, and Maggie’s Centres, and has had a significant impact on the work that they do. Walk the Walk is also a proud supporter of Breakthrough Breast Cancer and has helped fund The Generation Study – the largest study of its type that aims to track the health of over 100,000 women over a period of 40 years. His Royal Highness Prince Charles has been the Patron of this well respected charity since 2004.

Over the years many notables have given their support from Paul and Stella McCartney, Sir Richard Branson, to Pierce Brosnan, and designers Swarovski Crystal who created three magnificent bras in celebration of this year’s 15th anniversary of The MoonWalk London. “We are all so thrilled to be bringing The MoonWalk to New York City. This is the city where it all began! In 1996, 13 of us proudly Power Walked the New York City Marathon in our bras, and it is just quite amazing to see how far it has come, and how much we have achieved,” says Nina Barough, Founder and Chief Executive of Walk the Walk. Barough and the Walk the Walk team are encouraging New Yorkers to get involved. Applications and entries are available at www.walkthewalkAmerica.com. Participants are encouraged to raise at least $150.00. For additional information, please visit www.Facebook.com/WalktheWalkWorldwide and follow us at @WalktheWalk.
