Date like a Girl, Marry Like a Woman (iRead Book Tour).

Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by iRead Book Tours. This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links.

About the book:

Date Like a Girl, Marry Like a Woman: The Polished Woman's Guide to Love, Romance, and Sex will help you navigate how to have a good time with "Mr. Right Now" and how to hold onto "Mr. Right" once you find him. Providing a mix easy to follow rules, and anecdotes showcasing how they worked (and in some cases what happened when they were ignored), Jessica Bunevacz is the best friend you'll wish you had all along and the one whose advice you'll go back to again and again.

Unlike “The Rules”, its successors, or similar books offering guidance on how to snag a man, this book isn't about playing hard to get, instead it's about playing to win. And the only way that you can truly to that is when you acknowledge yourself as the MVP. This is why one of the first rules in Date Like a Girl, Marry Like a Woman: The Polished Woman's Guide to Love, Romance, and Sex is about shedding your insecurities, and why other rules offer insight on looking, feeling, and being your best, with an emphasis on having your own life. Additionally, while other guides stop when you get to a marriage proposal, this is the book you'll come back to after you say “I do”. Understanding that happily ever after may be a good way to end a movie, but isn't a good way to start a marriage there are real tips about everything from friendship to sex to finances with both humor and heart.

Ultimately Date Like a Girl, Marry Like a Woman: The Polished Woman's Guide to Love, Romance, and Sex is a work that is meant to transcend beyond the pages as it's lessons are applied in daily life. It never asks a woman to shy away from her impulses or to hide who she is or what she wants, and instead celebrates her independence and sensuality while showing her ways that she can make her romantic life more fulfilling.

Author's Bio:

What do you get when you mix a strict Catholic upbringing, a strong curiosity for the opposite sex, and the need to grow up quickly? If you're lucky you get an outcome like Jessica Bunevacz, the vivacious and outspoken first time author behindDate Like a Girl, Marry Like a Woman: The Polished Woman's Guide to Love, Romance, and Sex.

Born Jessica Rodriguez in the Philippines and raised by her grandparents after the separation of her mother and father, Bunevacz was thrust into the role of provider after the murder of her mother when she was fifteen. With four siblings relying on her she began work early, first as a live mannequin and later as a model, actress, talent manager and television host. The jobs not only helped her to support her siblings, but also her first two children. One of her proudest moments while working in entertainment was as the force behind a project called “Miss Ugly No More” where women were showed how they could feel and look their best. Juggling family and work Bunevacz was not content to simply sit on the sidelines while life passed her by, and dating became her favorite contact sport.

Traveling frequently for work and fascinated by men it wasn't long before she developed a set of rules to snag them, and guidelines for how she could remain at her best without being bested by the games others were playing. It wasn't long before she became a self-proclaimed MANnizer, capable of capturing and holding the attention of whoever interested her, while also continuing to do what was in her best interest as both a mother and entrepreneur with both family and a business to protect.

A romantic at heart however she soon stopped her pursuit of “Mr. Right Now” when she met the man who was “Mr. Right”, the man who became her husband. Newly married, she found herself rethinking everything she knew and realized that the same qualities that made a woman an amazing girlfriend didn't necessarily work for a wife. Rather than wait for someone else to write a marriage manual, she retooled her dating rules for herself to apply for a life after marriage. Jessica Bunevacz is now a happily married wife and mother of three currently residing in California.

While her life has been unconventional she has no regrets, and lives with the understanding that we all have the same basic desire: to feel loved, whether it's just for one night or for an entire lifetime. Using her own life experiences as a basis she develop real-world relationship advice to help women feel more confident and comfortable whether they're dating or have already said "I do".

My Review:

I wanted to read the book because I struggle at this dating thing. I would like to get re-married again one day, but I have to navigate the troubled waters of the dating pool. I thought my biggest issue was having herpes (10 years), but now I worry about how men will respond to my kids and how men will respond to my celibacy. I recently had a man, I talked to for 3 days over the phone (I hate talking over the phone) only to tell me he is not interested if I continue to remain celibate.

In the book, the author discussed her dating experiences, but she does not claim to be an expert in dating. The book is broken up into two parts: One for women, who are dating, (Date like a girl) and one for women, who are married (Marry like a woman).

The first thing, I found interesting was when the author described the most common types of men women will see while dating: Mr. Boring; Mr. Immature; Mr. High Profile; Mr. Big Spender; Mr. Insecure; Mr. Cheap; Mr. Jealousy; Mr. Married Man; Mr. Workahololic; Mr. Nice Guy; Mr. Superhero; Mr. Mama's boy; Mr. Narcissist; and Mr. Shady

Then, the author goes into the rules such as Don't date a married man; Open up your insecurity box (be open about your insecurities); and Never chase a man.  You don't have to call someone constantly or always take initiative when it comes to calling, texting, or setting up dates. If someone is interested in you, he will initiate contact and you don't have to ring his phone 30 times in one day. The author also recommends not sleeping with a man on the first date.

I strugged with rule 5: Let him know you're interested. If you like someone, let him know (provided he is available).

You can read about more rules in the the book. The book is available in paperback and kindle

Climax: Book 3 of the Publicist Series Review (iRead Book Tours)

This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links and Images

I read Climax: The Publicist, Book Three, in exchange for honest review. The other two books in the series are the Publicist (review) and Shelf Life (review). The books are written by Christina George.

The book is about Kate, the publicist, who is now the publisher at Lavigne House. Her latest book, is Sugar and Spice, a memoir about two bakers, who baked a cake for the president's daugther. Of course, the authors got into a verbal altercation before a book signing.

George did a great job writing the book. I loved her writing style in the previous two books. I like how the style continued into book three.

You can purchase the book in Kindle and Paperback format. The book is prime-eligible.

Shelf Life Book Review and Tour (iRead Book Tours)

This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links.

I read Shelf Life:The Publicist - Book Two in exchange for honest review from iRead Book Tours. The book was the sequel to The Publicist(my review). The book was written by Christina George.

About the Book (From Media Kit)

It’s an industry of out-of-control egos, unrealistic expectations, and unfulfilled promises.

This is publishing and it’s Kate’s world, but maybe not for long.

When one of Kate Mitchell’s star authors is carted away in handcuffs, it’s only the beginning of her troubles. As her world crumbles around her, Kate desperately looks for anyone to hold onto but finds that happy endings are truly works of fiction. With the shelf life of her career and her love affair quickly expiring, Kate sets off on a new adventure…

Starting over in California is easy but Kate soon learns that leaving her old life behind isn’t. Nick Lavigne is eager to help her forget but two things still own her heart, the dream of discovering the next great American novel, and MacDermott Ellis.

As Kate tries to rebuild her life she finds a surprising gift that reboots her career in a new and unexpected direction. Suddenly her name becomes synonymous with one of the biggest bestsellers publishing has seen in ages and she's welcomed back with open arms.

But at the height of her success the ghosts of her past come back to remind her of the world she'd been trying to forget and the man who never let go of her heart.

Behind the book, there’s always more to the story. Welcome to Publishing, the ego has landed.

Author Interview

1. Do you have another profession besides writing?

Yes! I’m a publicist, I was a publicist long before I was a writer.

2. What is the last great book you’ve read?

Well, I read a lot for work so that’s a tough one. I am also weird in that I often read several books at once so here we go… I recently read Kristan Higgins latest book and I love it. I also know her from events and she’s an unbelievably lovely person which is nice because you know, we've all met some authors who aren't. I am in the middle of reading Seth Godin’s latest book (Seth aka smartest man on the planet) but the most memorable book I've read is Gone Girl, I read that last year and it terrified me. Boy, talk about dysfunctional relationships. The movie didn't disappoint, either.

3. Are any of the stories real?

Yes, many of them are real. Though the names have been changed to protect the guilty, as it were.

4. Tell us about Kate, are you Kate?

I wish! No, Kate’s the kind of person I wish I was. She tells it like it is, she is sort of lost in a system that doesn't often support the author and, many times, she’s left to manage an author’s expectations of fame – or lack thereof.

5. You seem to poke a lot of fun at authors. Does this mean that you don’t like authors?

I do have a lot of fun with these authors but again, many of the stories really happened so it’s not like I just pulled these stories out of thin air. I love authors (and now I’m an author!), but many of them are misguided and, as any publicist will tell you, promoting a book isn't an easy job. I once had lunch with a very famous book publicist who has since retired from the industry. When I asked her if she’d ever promote books again she said “Oh God no.” Now, granted, most of us love what we do, though there are days, however…

My Review

The book starts out with a client, who locked herself in the green room. Kate, the publicist, doesn't know what to do until she remembers something, the client's manager told her to do. Kate hates doing this to her clients, but sometimes it works wonders when clients are in panic mode during a book tour. The next book focuses on twins, who killed their parents. Yay, the life of a publicist.

The book has a nice flow to it and is well written. I had read a few chapters quickly. I may have to backtrack and read/listen to both book 1 and 2 before I read book three, the Climax (review is coming up soon for Perfect Chaos). Some of the characters, who worked at Kate's office, I forgot.

I wanted to read the book to continue the series. As an author, I do love the antics of what Kate goes through for her clients.

You have many options when it comes to purchasing the books. You can purchase the Shelf Life, using the link above. You can purchase The Publicist Book One and Two (Shelf Life). The Publicist by Christina George Book Review (iRead Book Tour)

This post contains Amazon Affiliate Links.

I read The Publicist, in exchange for honest review from iRead Book Tours. I received an audio copy of the book.

About the Book:

Behind every book, there’s always more to the story.

Can one woman change an age-old institution like publishing? Probably not, but Kate Mitchell sure wants to try. As a publicist with a large, respected New York publishing house, Kate finds herself at the mercy of a broken publishing system, books that don’t always sell (at all) and author egos that are often, well, as big as the island of Manhattan.

Enter the star Editor, MacDermott Ellis. Tall, handsome, charismatic, married, and ready to save the day. Kate wants to do the right thing but her hormones seem to be driving her decisions. Then there’s Allan Lavigne, once a revered author, now as forgotten as yesterday’s news; and his nephew Nick, who wants to sweep Kate away from New York for another coast, California.

As Kate tries to navigate the landmine of publicity, the over-the-top author expectations, and the careful dance of “I’m sorry, your book isn’t on the bestseller list this week”, she also finds authors who are painfully overlooked by a publisher wanting more sex, more celebrities, and more scandal.

Author's Bio:

Christina George has worked in publishing for twenty years (give or take). Here’s what this book isn't. It’s not a slam against publishing (though it is broken) and it’s not a slam against authors (though some of them are crazy). This book is not autobiographical though many of the stories are true. No you won’t know which ones, cause it’s more fun to guess, right? George continues to work in publicity and helps authors because at the end of the day she does love books, she loves publishing, and she loves authors. She hopes you’ll enjoy this romp through Kate’s world as much as she enjoyed creating it.

My Review

I loved listening to the book. I tried to Chromecast it to play on the tv, while cleaning, but Silverlight didn't like me. So, I turned off the tv and listened from the computer.

Kate is a publicist, who helps upcoming authors with their books. In the first scene, she is helping one, hysterical author, keep from jumping off a ledge. Kate also has a crush on an editor at work (Mac), who is married, but is cheating.

I think the scene, which grabbed me the most, was when George focused on Mac's wife miscarriage, 20 or so years ago. I really felt for his wife, since I had a miscarriage before. The wife withdrew and moved into a separate room. She also has not been intimate with her husband since.

Then, you have Grace, Kate's good friend, who tries to keep Kate on the straight and narrow, especially from falling for Mac.

The book flowed well from one chapter to the next. I was on chapter 11 within a few hours. I also loved the scene, where Bernie, a low grade editor, forgets to order enough books for a book signing, Kate is helping promote. When Kate arrives at the book signing to set-up, she learns Bernie only ordered 20 books, when 200 people have arrived to see the authors.

Kate is not trying to fail because she has a hot book, she was promised to help promote, which will help jumpstart her career. No more hysterical authors to keep from jumping. or authors crying over a bad review (which I know the feeling)
