The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up Review (Blogging for Books)

I received The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, in exchange for honest review from Blogging for Books. The book was written by Marie Kondo.

I received a hardback book. I wanted to review the book because I need help organizing my bedroom. I have so much space and so many more things. The things piled up since I had Kalen, after Brad moved in, and after I started blogging. I don't like clutter, but I can't figure out how to control the clutter, without more piling up. Some days, I am also frankly too tired or stressed to figure it out as well. I have to clean the game room daily since Brad sleeps in there. I also try to clean the bathroom, a few days a week. I sweep my bedroom floor multiple times a day.

I also have to clean other places of the house because no one else will or it's just dirty and my minor ocd starts to kick in, such as the steps, the dishes, the washroom, the kitchen, and sometimes (rare), the back patio.

I did make some progress in the closet by buying a vertical storage unit with 3 drawers. This meant removing 3 rubbermaids/sterlite out of the closet to organize my beauty supplies and unmentionables better. I also started going through the rubbermaids/sterlites to throw away old things, I may not need anymore. I found some product reviews, from 2012, I truly needed this year, but couldn't find them. I also organized the four-storage horizontal organizer, already in the closet. I now have a dedicated drawer for baby wipes, diapers, snacks, and my cups/dishes.

On Page 14, Kondo discusses how "people cannot change their habits without first changing their way of thinking." Simply tossing things in a rubbermaid does not get rid of clutter. I have to organize the clutter. I also liked how the author said sort by category, not by location. Instead of focusing just on one room, such as the bathroom, focus on cleaning supplies. You may have cleaning supplies in multiple locations. Bring all the supplies to one location and go through what you need and don't need. Like, for me, all my cleaning supplies are at the top of the closet to stay out of reach from children. In the bathroom, I store parts and tools for cleaning, such as the mop bucket, the attachments to the carpet cleaner, and the lint lizard.

The author also said before we tidy, we must discard. We can't put things up without discarding things first. So, I can't just toss the things back into an empty rubbermaid until the next day or a few days later.

You can purchase the book, using the link above. The book comes in paperback, hardback, Kindle, and Audible format
