Author Interview

1. Do you have another profession besides writing?


Yes! I’m a publicist, I was a publicist long before I was a writer.

2. What is the last great book you’ve read?


Well, I read a lot for work so that’s a tough one. I am also weird in that I often read several books at once so here we go… I recently read Kristan Higgins latest book and I love it. I also know her from events and she’s an unbelievably lovely person which is nice because you know, we've all met some authors who aren't. I am in the middle of reading Seth Godin’s latest book (Seth aka smartest man on the planet) but the most memorable book I've read is Gone Girl, I read that last year and it terrified me. Boy, talk about dysfunctional relationships. The movie didn't disappoint, either.

3. Are any of the stories real?


Yes, many of them are real. Though the names have been changed to protect the guilty, as it were.

4. Tell us about Kate, are you Kate?


I wish! No, Kate’s the kind of person I wish I was. She tells it like it is, she is sort of lost in a system that doesn't often support the author and, many times, she’s left to manage an author’s expectations of fame – or lack thereof.

5. You seem to poke a lot of fun at authors. Does this mean that you don’t like authors?


I do have a lot of fun with these authors but again, many of the stories really happened so it’s not like I just pulled these stories out of thin air. I love authors (and now I’m an author!), but many of them are misguided and, as any publicist will tell you, promoting a book isn't an easy job. I once had lunch with a very famous book publicist who has since retired from the industry. When I asked her if she’d ever promote books again she said “Oh God no.” Now, granted, most of us love what we do, though there are days, however…

My Review

The book starts out with a client, who locked herself in the green room. Kate, the publicist, doesn't know what to do until she remembers something, the client's manager told her to do. Kate hates doing this to her clients, but sometimes it works wonders when clients are in panic mode during a book tour. The next book focuses on twins, who killed their parents. Yay, the life of a publicist. 

The book has a nice flow to it and is well written. I had read a few chapters quickly. I may have to backtrack and read/listen to both book 1 and 2 before I read book three, the Climax (review is coming up soon for Perfect Chaos). Some of the characters, who worked at Kate's office, I forgot.

I wanted to read the book to continue the series. As an author, I do love the antics of what Kate goes through for her clients.
