I read Financial Empowerment: Realign Your Finances to God's Will, in exchange for honest review from Tomoson. The book was written by Pamela Carmichael. I wanted to read the book because I been taking financial management classes at church. The classes teach more than just tithes, but retirement planning, insurance, savings, budgeting, and more.
We need to learn how to manage the money, we have right now to pay our bills, save for the future, or even splurge on a special purchase.
Carmichael first discusses how we need money to get what we need. Money also helps support the church: the lights, water, mortgage, etc. Money can not work on it's own, we have to manage it. We have to spend it but not according to our will, but to God's will, so tithes first. :-).
My church came out with an amazing feature: online giving. I do not like carrying cash. My church also does not have an ATM. So, instead of carrying around cash when I get paid and being paranoid all week, I can give online as soon as I get it.
Next, Carmichael discusses how God is the source of our lives. We need to depend on him more, instead of more on self. She also discusses wealth and work.
Chapter 4 starts with financial management, which starts with tithing, as previously discussed. The author discussed how God blessed her when she was struggling after she started paying tithes. She also discusses the benefits of Tithes, such as tithing honors God. Carmichael also provides tips on how to look differently at tithes.
Chapter 5 focuses on saving. Saving for the future. Saving for emergencies. Minister Lance at church said a while back, most folks don't have enough savings to cover a $5000 emergency. I started a savings account for each child. I need to add more. Right now, they are at the minimum needed to start the account. I want to start adding $25 to $50 each month per child, in addition to adding the same to my savings.
Chapter 6 focuses on investment. Chapter 7 focuses on spending. The book overall has 13 chapters. The book is an excellent read. The book is available on Amazon in Kindle and Paperback format. The book is prime-eligible.
